C-Sustainable - Complete Management of Recycling of Construction Waste

Australian Construction Site Waste Management Statistics

  • we are currently recycling 30% of the waste we produce
  • Australians currently send approximately 400kgs of site/construction waste per person to landfills each year
    • 22.5 million people x 400kgs = 8.8 million tonnes to landfill annually
  • experts estimate that this will increase in 10 years' time by a further 25% (11 million tonnes to landfill)

Australia prides itself on being an environmentally friendly country, but in reality Australia falls below the recommended world ranking for yearly waste management target.

In consideration of the total waste produced in Australia annually, 69.66% of all that waste was sent directly to landfills ranking it as the 21st highest in the world production of Municipal Solid Waste.

2013-msw-australia

In 2013 Australia produced 21 million tons of Municipal Solid Waste.  This is anticipated to increase by 25% by 2025.  40% of this waste is Site/Construction waste.

Very simply, we can do better.

loaded-bin-unsorted-1At present, the waste is loaded into skips by various employees that have certain jobs, Concreters, Carpenters, Labourers, Electricians, Plumbers, etc.  These men and women are too involved in their own work to worry about what they put into the skip or bin.  Site clean up for each group of contractors onsite is generally done as quickly as possible which will mean everything is tossed into the main skip to save time and get the cleanup job done as fast as possible.  If the materials they are cleaning up is not theirs, generally, they are just not interested and it goes straight to the skip.

We need to change the system.

There is no quality assurance on what leaves the site in the skip.  By this we mean that there are all types of "waste" and "materials" being discarded for no reason.  Some of which are still usable and may still be needed on site for several other jobs.

When your waste leaves the site, at whatever you paid to have it removed, this waste then becomes the property of the waste company.  This company will then recycle the materials, equipment, etc but with no value to you.

WE HAVE A BETTER WASTE MANAGEMENT SOLUTION

It is our experience that skips are called for when needed.  They are then filled over the period of a few hours or days with your waste.

But when it comes to removal, it could take anyhing from next day to several days to remove.

During this time, the following might occur:

  • the skip could be overfilled (incurring an extra charge)
  • the skip may not be completely filled (no value for money)
  • the skip may be filled with all types of materials (incurring an extra cost)
  • may be contaiminated with chemicals, fuels, etc (incurring an extra cost)
  • may have to be moved by your equipment and manpower to allow work to continue or start

We will not let a skip leave a site unless it is at its maximum capacity of the designated waste.
